I brought the car home in November 2007 and it sat around for the next four years. Basically life got in the way so all I did with it was to keep adding paint to the rust spots when they showed up. Not a good plan and I finally had to do something because the rust was starting to win the race.

One of my problems was not enough space to work on two cars. The XKE has been under cover for the last 30 years or so, but it was not in a shape to move it outside.

So we spent the money to add a garage with enough ceiling height to accommodate a lift. This addition is the only reason any of these projects will get finished.

Once the MG was in the garage, real work began. I don't know the cars complete history but I can tell that multiple attempts have been made to restore it and all of those attempts were more amateur than mine. All over the car, rust spots were repaired with brazed patches. All of these had to be cut out and rewelded with a MIG welder.

It does not look too bad here, but all the cross members were so rusted they had to be repaired or replaced. The transmission tunnel was heavily rusted and needed hours of work.

Rather than replace the wooden floors, someone braised in a metal floor that had to be cut out.
